The fabric is made from indigo-dyed sashiko, a traditional Japanese textile.
The warp threads are dyed black, and as they age, you can enjoy a gradation of indigo and black.
The pattern is made from sashiko dyed with indigo kazame, which is then discharge-dyed and then colored to create a special fabric.
An open-collar shirt has been made from this fabric.
The result is a shirt that matches the Japanese summer.
It's also fun to watch the indigo change over time.
